Most expensive dog ever sold
The most expensive dog ever sold is the Tibetan Mastiff. A Mastiff puppy sold for $ 1.95 million at a premium pet fair in the eastern province of Zhejiang.
The breeder Zhang Gengyun had two Tibetan mastiff pups for sale. One of the pups was purchased by a 56-year-old property developer from Qingdao. The mastiff has lion’s blood and are top-of-the-range mastiff studs. This is the reason for its high price. Normal Tibetan Mastiff is between $3,500 and $6,000.
Tibetan Mastiffs are an ancient dog breed with long coats. They are aloof, highly intelligent, strong-willed and independent dogs who switch between obedience and will depending on their mood. They are guardians of people and property, and can take that job very seriously.
The Tibetan mastiff has a lion-like mane and massive stature. Full-grown females can be 24 inches or more at the shoulder, and male Tibetan mastiffs can be 26 inches at the shoulder. Females weigh 70-120 pounds and males weigh 90-150 pounds.
They are a symbol of status among China’s growing affluent classes. They are affectionately known as Big Splash or Hong Dong in Chinese.
In 2011, A multi-millionaire coal baron from northern China purchased a 11-month-old Tibetan mastiff named Big Splash for $1.5 million.
